7. The Corre
Formed out of the ashes of the Nexus, the hideously-spelled Corre made their presence felt on SmackDown in early 2011. Barrett was joined by his Nexus-brethren Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, along with powerhouse Ezekial Jackson. They arrived by putting the boots to Big Show, and the future looked good for the group.
Things looked particularly rosy for Jackson, and his unreal strength was frequently showcased on the blue brand. All four experienced success in the group, with Barrett making it to the final four of the Royal Rumble and also picking up his first Intercontinental Championship by defeating Kofi Kingston. Gabriel and Slater also picked up their second and third tag titles during this time.
For whatever reason however, less than six months after arriving the group was done. The group took on the ramshackle team of Big Show, Kingston, Kane and Santino Marella and lost in under two minutes, in a match memorable only for Heath Slater's perfect selling of Big Shows knockout punch. Gabriel and Slater went on to lose the tag titles before Jackson walked out on the group in mid May. Jackson would beat Barrett for the IC title, and the Corre was done.
They were never going to rule the world, but the platform had been set for Barrett and the Corre to gain some traction and credibility on the SmackDown scene. Why the group ended so quickly I'll never know, but it was yet another case of wasted opportunity.
