3. Straight Edge Society

Formed out of the freshly-heel CM Punk's real life lifestyle, the Straight Edge Society was special from the get-go. It rammed home Punk's heel persona, showing anyone who still doubted that he belonged on the biggest stage of them all, and belonged there as a heel.

The group also provided an out for the awful Festus character, as he was repackaged as Luke Gallows. The duo spent weeks shaving the heads of fans who wanted to be 'saved', before doing so to a female fan named Serena. This was of course Serena Deeb, one of the most talented female wrestlers in the world at the time. The duo became a trio, and quickly became the most over heels on SmackDown by an absolute landslide.

After a great feud with Rey Mysterio a shoddy one with Big Show followed, which saw the trio expanded further with the addition of Joseph Mercury. Things would start to go downhill at this point. Serena would soon be released for not living out her gimmick lifestyle in public, Mercury would have to undergo surgery and Gallows was released.

The Straight Edge Society represented an opportunity to create a genuine monster heel in the modern age, but instead the legs were taken out from under the group before anything special could be produced.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
