10 Truly Awful WWE Divas Storylines, Angles And Gimmicks

9. HLA

What were WWE creative smoking back in 2002? Although many fans fondly look back on the era for the amount of star power and great matches, there was some shockingly poor/offensive television around that time, particularly on Raw. One of the worst angles during this time was HLA. HLA stood for 'Hot Lesbian Action' and was concocted by Eric Bischoff (in the storyline) to compete with Smackdown's gay wedding between Billy and Chuck. The wedding had gathered a lot of mainstream media attention and the Bisch wanted some for his brand, too. It was a perfectly transparent attempt to pop a rating. WWE's ratings were not great at that time and WWE resorted to shock TV to save face. Jerry Lawler and WWE superstars hyped up the HLA all night and sounded like little kids when discussing the prospect of a woman kissing another woman. It was pretty pathetic. The two 'lesbians' were Looney Lane and Savvy, from California independent group Ultimate Pro Wrestling. They were angling for a job and had been on WWE's radar, so it wasn't like the two aspiring wrestlers were going to say no. After being beaten up by Three Minute Warning (Lane suffered a cracked rib), they probably wished they had. It was a disgraceful segment, one which was cut by Sky Sports when the show was broadcast in the UK
