10 Ultimate Warrior Moments To Relive On WWE Network

2. The Ultimate Warrior vs "Macho King" Randy Savage - Wrestlemania VII (Retirement Match)

When asked, Warrior would refer to Randy Savage as his favorite opponent, and the in-ring chemistry shown between the two in this match makes it evident why. Some consider this to be Warrior's best match, and there is a compelling argument to be made for that opinion. This match was the result of months of build after Warrior refused to give Macho King a title shot during the summer of 1990, Savage attacked Warrior at Royal Rumble 1991, breaking his golden scepter over Warrior's head and costing him the WWF Title. Warrior hellbent on revenge would then agree to take on Savage at Wrestlemania 7 in a retirement match. The match itself is memorable for a number of reasons. Sensational Sherri did an admirable job providing a distraction for the Warrior, and was involved in a number of spots. The real reason why most people remember this matchup so fondly was the ending; Savage gained control over Warrior and hit his patented flying elbow drop. Not convinced that would be enough to keep the Warrior down, he went back up to the top for another. Again and Again, over and over. In total Macho King Randy Savage would hit his finishing move FIVE times on the Ultimate Warrior, but fueled with the spirit of the warriors, the ultimate one refused to stay down and somehow kicked out. Warrior, now in control was able to hit his finish on Savage, nailing him with the gorilla press drop and the big splash. When Savage kicked out, Warrior became unsure of himself. Even though he'd survived Savage's five elbows, he started to loose faith in himself and walk away from the match. But Savage stopped him, attacking him from behind. Warrior returned to the ring and hit a series of flying shoulder blocks to Savage, which were so powerful they knocked Savage from the ring repeatedly. After several big shoulder blocks, Warrior pinned Savage, saving his career, and ending Savage's, in the process. This match is also remembered for the emotional ending in which Savage finally ends his relationship with the evil Sensational Sherri and reconnects with his longtime manager/wife Miss Elizabeth.
