So far on this list we've seen people take their wrestling names from where they grew up, their favourite band's album, and film characters, but 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper may be the only wrestler in history who got his name by mistake.

'Hot Rod' was taking his first tentative steps in the business, wrestling in the AWA when fate handed him his seminal sobriquet. Making his way to the ring to face Larry Hennig (Mr Perfect's father) whilst his friends played his traditional bagpipes, the future Hall Of Famer was handing out dandelions to the crowd when he heard his botched introduction.

Apparently, the ring announcer had forgotten the second half of Roddy's name and simply declared, "Ladies and gentlemen, here comes Roddy the piper." This gave birth to the moniker by which one wrestling's greatest ever heels would become known.

Whether you want to call it happenstance, luck, or downright fluke, without that dodgy debut, we wouldn't have 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper.
