10 Unbelievable WrestleMania Matches That Almost Happened
1. Shawn Michaels Vs. Eddie Guerrero - WrestleMania 22
There are a number of dream matches we will likely never ever see. From Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle to Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan, the list of WrestleMania main events that never came to be is eternally heartbreaking.
Fantasy booking aside, one dream match that was very much in consideration was Eddie Guerrero and Shawn Michaels. Lightly pencilled in for WrestleMania 22, 'Latino Heat' vs 'The Heartbreak Kid' would have been an amazing story to tell and a true pleasure to watch unfold.
Former WWE writer Court Bauer noted on the MLW Radio Network that plans were indeed put in place just days before Guerrero passed away in November 2005. Former WWE Exec, Bruce Prichard, has since gone on to confirm this statement.
Given the stellar work rate of both men and their similar ascensions to the top of the wrestling industry, this would have been a wrestling purest's dream match and the similarities in style would have meshed tremendously.
Even their battles outside the ring with their own personal demons mirrored each other and both men found redemption as born-again Christians. Sadly, Guerrero's death just days after the idea began to snowball left the match confined to fantasy warfare. In one of wrestling biggest missed opportunities, the two men never crossed paths in the squared circle.
