10 Underhyped Wrestling Matches That Blew Everyone Away

Backlash 2000 very nearly had the show stolen outright by its second match, as Dean Malenko defended his Light Heavyweight Championship against Scotty 2 Hotty.

The manner in which these two had been booked up to this point suggested this would be nothing more than a competent-yet-forgettable TV-caliber fight, but on this night both men brought their absolute A-game to the fore.

This was a shockingly physical match, with Malenko relentlessly working Scotty's knee and Scotty taking some absolutely hellacious bumps throughout, especially with the top-rope DDT which finally finished the job.

Malenko got one of his few true opportunities in WWE to show off his technical potential, but the real story here might just be how Scotty kept pace every step of the way. Without question, this is the best singles match of his entire WWE tenure.

If you haven't seen it or don't remember it - and given how it came and went without much fanfare, nobody could blame you - do yourself a favour and check it out.
