One of the most underappreciated elements of 1999 WCW was its emphasis on tag team wrestling, particularly in the first-half of the year. As two of the Four Horsemen, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko were stalwarts of the division, dominating the scene whether they were babyfaces or heels.

Joining them were Raven and Perry Saturn, a team of rejects who put aside their past differences to form a hellishly skilled duo. Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio had a brief flirtation with the tag titles, The West Texas Rednecks provided the entertainment factor and The Jersey Triad (Diamond Dallas Page, Bam Bam Bigelow and Kanyon) were the heels that the division would revolve around throughout the summer.

With that much talent working together on a nightly basis, fans could tune into WCW and expect a certain in-ring quality to make up for the ridiculous angles involving the tired old-timers that dominated the main event scene.

The Spring Stampede showdown between the Horsemen and Saturn and Raven was particularly great, providing the turbulent company with a legitimate Match of the Year candidate.

With WWE enjoying unmatched success (though not necessarily from an in-ring perspective), WCW countered with a tag team division that for a period, was simply outstanding.
