Scott Steiner made it a goal every Monday night to not only cross the line of good taste, but to spit in its face and make it his hoochie.

Big Poppa Pump, as he called himself, was loud and obnoxious. He was cocky and arrogant. Steiner was a master of the mic and no matter how jumbled or rambled his promos may have been, he captivated the audience.

Sure, as an in-ring entity, he sucked. All of the pure athleticism that he had displayed earlier in his career had been replaced by a jacked physique and hair bleach. Still, he was an intriguing figure, the type of breakout star capable of ascending to the top of the card, a fresh face capable of exploding through the glass ceiling and succeeding at the next level.

It would be another year before that happened permanently but there was no denying that, as 1999 marched on, Steiner had tapped into a character that would carry him to his greatest heights.
