5. The Velveteen Dream Vs Matt Riddle – New York

Our most recent match and we return to the North American Championship. This time, instead of a superhero and a playboy, we have a Prince-cosplayer and a stoner. Wrestling.

The Velveteen Dream was defending his championship against Matt Riddle, who was yet to lose a match in NXT. Riddle looked all set to capture the gold, but nothing is ever certain with The Dream.

Coming down to the ring dressed as The Statue of Liberty (because of course), The Dream had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the get-go. Then again, Riddle was also immensely popular, making the dynamic of this match very interesting.

Riddle clearly outperforms Dream, throwing the poor guy from pillar to post and practically killing him with a deadlift German Suplex. However, Dream doesn't stay down, frustrating the former UFC man.

The match's finish is brilliant. Riddle gets Dream in the Bro-Mission, which usually means game over, except Dream has the wherewithal to roll through. The Dream pins Riddle with his own move and snatches victory from the jaws of defeat.

A great story told with two wonderful characters, this one earned extra points for NXT for not using this an excuse to turn either of these beloved performers heel.
