10 Underrated NXT TakeOver Matches You Need To Revist
6. Bayley Vs Nia Jax – London
NXT's first foray abroad pitted its new monster against its most celebrated hero.
Nia Jax had debuted just two months prior and aligned herself with Eva Marie. NXT Women's Champion, Bayley defeated Eva Marie on an episode of NXT, despite interference from Jax, setting up a big time title match for London, pitting the undefeated Jax against the popular champion.
Now, this match isn't a technical masterclass (that isn't Jax's forte now, let alone five years ago), but it is an excellent example of the "Big Wrestler/Little Wrestler" dynamic that has been successfully serving bookers for decades.
Jax dominates Bayley, dropping vicious leg drops that look absolutely devastating to her much smaller opponent. However, it is Jax's size advantage that is her hubris.
She makes numerous attempts to pin Bayley with just one foot, allowing her to kick out of moves that should have put her away. This protects Jax in defeat and makes Bayley look like a smart and resourceful champion.
Bayley eventually got the win, chopping down her giant foe before tapping her out with a guillotine. Bayley's reign continued, Nia still looked strong, and the British crowd got their money's worth.
