Match of the Night: Batista vs The Undertaker vs Edge
2007 had a coasting feeling to it for WWE, especially compared to the year that followed it. This was the year of the pushes that fell flat and, as the year progressed, a feeling of anticipation grew within the WWE Universe. 2007 was most notable for being the time when the Chris Benoit tragedy occurred and WWE tried to compensate for the feeling of embarrassment by stacking cards through the year. However, it's understandable that the company couldn't wait to start 2008 afresh.
The last PPV of the year created a sense of what was to come ahead of the transition to the PG era. Jeff Hardy and Triple H competed for the #1 contender spot for the WWE Championship in what was considered Jeff’s best singles match to date. A card including Shawn Michaels vs Mr Kennedy and Batista vs Edge vs Undertaker should have felt bigger, but did exactly the job it needed to do: not make itself too aware of the year that was and showed that the company and the talent were able to up their game for a huge shift in tone to come.
