Back in the years prior to WrestleMania 39, WWE did not care about tag team wrestling, especially during the reign of McMahon. The then-champions the Usos were primarily used on the pre-show in past Manias to hype up the crowd before the actual show began. However, the story leading up to their bout with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens was so good, it belonged in the main event. This lead to the Unified Tag Team Championship main-eventing WrestleMania for the first, and likely only, time.

This isn't the first time anything other than a world championship was defended on the last match of the night. The Ultimate Warrior's Intercontinental Championship was defended at WrestleMania VI, with Hulk Hogan's WWF Championship also on the line in a unification match. The Intercontinental Championship however carries with it a certain prestige as the workhorse championship, one that could easily main event a WrestleMania in the future. The tag titles, under any guise they've had in their long history, have never held the same weight of expectation. Never forget that the Raw Tag Team Titles were won by the thrown-together team of AJ Styles and Omos at 37.

The tag team scene was never as hot on the main roster as it was in 2024. Jimmy & Jey Uso earned their contention as one of the greatest teams of all time, and Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens were just coming off a hot angle against the rest of the Bloodline. A massive feel-good win at the end of WrestleMania 39's Saturday show made too much sense. Four of the biggest stars in the company at the time, fighting for the Tag Team Championships at their most prestigious in the main event made the Hollywood Mania one of a kind in the best way.
