10 Unlikely WWE Champions With Hugely Memorable Title Runs
8. The Miz
When The Miz won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2010, securing himself a shot at the WWE Title, fans the world over let out a collective groan of disappointment. In a match that also involved the likes of Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, and Edge, Miz was not a popular choice of victor.
Nevertheless, win he did and on 22 November 2010, the former reality TV star defeated Randy Orton to become the WWE Champion. While initially met with widespread scepticism, Miz retained the title against a number of noteworthy challengers, including Orton and former partner, John Morrison.
Miz's status as a lucky champion also created a scenario where Jerry Lawler challenged for the WWE Championship on two separate occasions, with a believable chance of winning. Lawler's feud with Miz elevated the Memphis veteran to his most prolific spot on the card in years as a result.
Incredibly, Miz's run as champ would also see him retain the WWE Title in the main event of WrestleMania - making him one of a only nine men to ever achieve that feat in history. Living up to the awesome pre-match promo package, Miz rose to the occasion in the show-closing slot and managed to shake off a nasty bump over the guard rail to finish up without missing a beat.
