10 Most Unusual Wrestling Injuries Ever

8. Joey Mercury's Broken Face

Joey Mercury As we've already discussed here, accidents can happen in the ring. Sometimes, you simply cannot avoid them. When you involve dangerous weapons such as ladders into a match, the chances of accidents taking place increase tremendously. At 2006's Armageddon pay-per-view, the WWE Tag Team Champions, Paul London and Brian Kendrick, defended their titles against MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro), The Hardy Boyz, and the team of William Regal and Dave Taylor in a Four-Way Ladder Match. During the match, a spot saw Mercury accidentally take a catapulted ladder directly in the nose and orbital bone. Within seconds, he was a bloody mess. People have compared it to looking like he had been shot in the face. He was unrecognizable, with one eye being completely swollen shut, the other eye taking on some swelling, his nose broken, and blood covering everything. His final injury toll was a broken nose (in three different places), a broken orbital bone, and 15 stitches to each side of his nose. This would eventually cost him his job, as he became addicted to pain medication in the immediate aftermath, although many wouldn't blame him in that situation. Luckily, he was able to put that all behind him, and has been rehired by the company, where he now works as a road agent. Accidents do happen, but rarely are they this sudden and this violent, taking a man from "normal" to "disfigured" in the blink of an eye.
