Battle royals have long been an integral part of professional wrestling, whether acting as the main event on live events all over the world or opening shows up getting everyone on the card. The idea is that you must avoid being eliminated, which happens when an individual is thrown over the top rope to the floor.

Despite this meaning that the ropes are obviously very risky territory, wrestlers still feel compelled to run towards an opponent on the ropes at full speed. The majority of times, this only leads to the object moving out the way and our hero tumbling valiantly to the floor.

This is something that nobody ever seems to learn. Do not run at the ropes in a battle royal.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
