8. The Resurrection Of Gavin Stone

The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is a forthcoming romantic comedy set for a tentative January 20th, 2017 release date. It stars Brett Dalton as the titular washed-up former child actor who’s forced to do community service at a local church, and follows him as he pretends to be a Christian en route to starring in the group’s annual “Passion Play.”

More significantly for WWE fans, Shawn Michaels plays Doug, a rough and rugged member of the congregation who harbours a criminal background. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone will be HBK’s first professional acting job, though he’s also currently filming Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars, which is set for a 2018 release.

The trailer makes The Resurrection look like relatively straightforward romcom fare, though Shawn’s contributions are relatively limited. It’s hard to imagine that more opportunities with WWE Studios won’t follow if Michaels impresses, however, particularly with his recent residence as a WWE Performance Center trainer.

The Resurrection isn’t exactly laced with star power, but Neil Flynn (AKA: the janitor from Scrubs) plays Gavin Stone’s dad, so there’s that...
