3. Fast 8

The latest instalment in the ludicrously successful Fast & Furious franchise is set for an April 14th, 2017 release, and, as usual, stars “who’s who” of Hollywood talent. Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, and countless others step-in for Fast 8, which stands as one of Hollywood’s biggest cash cow franchises, and will likely make millions regardless of the film’s quality.

The Rock returns as Hobbs, a role he’s played since 2011’s Fast Five. The last film, Furious 7, closed with Rock’s character taking Statham’s villainous Deckard Shaw into custody and locking him up in a high-security prison. A plot summary is still to appear, but Fast 8 will likely act as a direction continuation, and Statham’s involvement suggests that Shaw’s incarceration likely won’t go as planned for poor old Rocky.

With the franchise now eight films deep, you know exactly what you’re going to get from a Fast & Furious film. Fast 8 will be another fast-paced, high-octane, “leave your brain at home” popcorn flick that won’t compete for Oscars, but will leave you entertained if you don’t go in with unrealistic expectations. This isn’t the franchise’s closing chapter, however, and there are plans in place for at least another trilogy of films.

Fast 8 hasn’t come without problems, however. Diesel claimed in a TMZ interview earlier this year and he and The Rock had “butted heads” to a point where it was “impossible to shoot scenes.” Rock responded with a pretty blatant Instagram snipe a few days later, but things have since cooled-off.
