Deonna Purrazzo and Mickie James' feud needed something like this. Their Knockouts Title match has been built on this personal hatred for each other that started as admiration on Mickie's part for the 'Virtuosa's' work ethic. Until now, though, they'd only brawled in the IMPACT Zone. The same place as every other rivalry in the promotion.
For Deonna to rock up at Mickie's farm, claim to be her friend to gain entry, and begin a long, long brawl, the personal nature of the rivalry just rose by a considerable amount.
This brawl wasn't what it could have been, but that's fine. It felt like it lasted an age, coming across more as a cinematic encounter rather than a standard brawl, however, this is IMPACT's editing style. It traditionally works. Although it didn't click as well here, the brawl still worked. You believed Deonna legitimately hated Mickie as she tried to drown her in a bucket of water, while also literally saying she was going to kill the former Knockouts Champion.
It was crucial that Deonna stood over Mickie this week, as it's usually been the other way around for the majority of this story. Their 23 October clash now feels a whole lot more important coming away from this.
