10 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jun 30)
4. The World Title Situation
Late last week, Impact management found themselves in a difficult situation with regards to their scheduled Slammiversary main event that was supposed to see Tessa Blanchard returning to the ring to defend her World Championship against Ace Austin, Eddie Edwards, Michael Elgin, and Trey. However, with both Blanchard and Elgin finding themselves ousted from the promotion for vastly different reasons, the title was declared vacant, and Slammiversary was without a main event.
That was, until Josh Mathews and Madison Rayne opened this week's show to announce the new and improved title match. Ace Austin vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Trey vs. a mystery opponent in an Elimination Match with a new World Champion guaranteed to be crowned on 18 July.
This is once again a case of Impact Wrestling making the best out of a bad situation. Ace, Eddie, and Trey all have legitimate claims to be the World Champion, so it makes sense as to why they're all in there. While that in itself would have been a worthy championship contest, the addition of the mystery competitor adds a bit of suspense to an already tantalising match.
With all the other teases Impact have been giving us as of late, Slammiversary may very well be talked about for years to come.
