10 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Oct 29)
4. Marvellous Marufuji
With The North issuing an open challenge last week (which seemed to indicate a challenge to any team), it would instead be a singles bout as Josh Alexander battled Naomichi Marufuji. Don't worry though, you won't see this writer charging in with a pitchfork at the match change, as it was quite the contest.
A bit of a slow start here with several strikes raining in from both men, but things soon picked up as Alexander connected with a ripcord forearm smash, which, yes, was technically another strike, but it was far more brutal than anything before. Marufuji ended up getting the victory here with a beautiful sliced bread #2 out of the corner, but the real winners here were the fans. A cheesy saying perhaps, however, it was certainly the case here.
The duo showed excellent chemistry with one another, which makes it a shame we don't often get to see Josh Alexander in singles action. He's phenomenal as a tag wrestler alongside Ethan Page, but that's not to say he's only allowed to do tag matches. The same applies to Page.
Alexander showed some disrespect to the Japanese legend post-match by not shaking his hand at the request of his partner, which indicates a tag team match could be in the future. More matches between Alexander and Marufuji?
There's nothing not to love.
