10 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Oct 29)

3. New Era, New Champion

Sami Callihan is the brand new Impact World Champion. It's been a long time coming for 'The Callihan Death Machine', and now everything feels right.

His steel cage match with Brian Cage was, as expected, another brilliant encounter between the pair, with the cage being utilised as much as possible throughout the match. An impressive spot came right at the beginning, where an already bloodied Cage had been locked out of the cage at the hands of Callihan (a bit of a stupid move there since Sami couldn't win the title that way), only for the champ to climb the cage in a few simple leaps. They don't call him 'The Machine' for nothing.

There weren't any moments to breathe in this one, as both champion and challenger tore into one another with all their big moves. Brian Cage was seemingly indestructible, as he managed to kick out of four (!) piledrivers from Sami, but a fifth one from atop the turnbuckles was enough to keep him grounded long enough so that Callihan could win the World Championship.

While you could argue that his win should've occurred at Bound For Glory, seeing as that's Impact's biggest show of the year, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having his big championship victory happen on a weekly episode of Impact. It was the first official night on AXS TV, so they needed to kick things off in style.

What better way to do that than with the crowning of a new Impact World Champion?
