10 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jun 10)

5. Women Shine In Tag

Devoid of the over-ambition that has plagued many an AEW women's match since the promotion's inception, Penelope Ford and Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida was booked to establish the next Women's Title contender. Whoever came out of it looking best, it seemed, would get the shot.

That woman was Ford. She pinned Shida after Kip Sabian interfered, distracting the referee for a belt shot. The next challenger pinning the champion in a tag is a trope that works well if it isn't overdone. AEW hasn't burned it out yet, so it was effective here.

The bout itself was fast and fluid with rapid-fire tags and strong work all-round. Rose looked a little tamer than usual, though that was to be expected: Ford was going over, not 'The Native Beast,' and having her bust out things like the rope-hang knee drop would draw too much attention from that.
