10 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Oct 4)
2. Put On Notice
Just two weeks before he battles Japanese sensation Naomichi Marufuji at Bound For Glory, Michael Elgin competed in this week's Impact main event as he faced TJP. Two entirely different wrestlers who have completely different movesets and mannerisms whenever they step inside the ring made for a highly entertaining show-closing contest.
TJP used his quickness to easily avoid the signature offence of 'Big Mike', while Elgin battered the former Manik black and blue whenever the opportunity arose. As mentioned in the first paragraph, this was a fantastic clash of styles. While the David vs. Goliath story may be a tad overused in professional wrestling nowadays, it's never tiresome to see it used when it's done well. This was one of those occasions.
The finish of the match was especially great though. Elgin obliterated TJP, but he simply wouldn't give up. He was slammed down on the ramp and then nailed with a top rope falcon arrow back inside the ring, kicking out of that at two. He even managed to cinch in an armbar after kicking out but luckily for 'Unbreakable' Michael, a buckle bomb/Elgin Bomb combo was enough for the three count as he put Marufuji on notice for what he can expect when Impact rolls into Illinois.
A great match here, with Michael Elgin looking phenomenal heading into this huge bout with the Pro Wrestling NOAH staple, while TJP still looks alright even after losing. Luck isn't on his side for now.
