10 Ups & 6 Downs For WWE In 2023 (So Far)

3. The “Secondary” Strap

First off, this guy actually likes the design of WWE's new World Heavyweight Championship, so this isn't in the 'Downs' because of aesthetics. No, it's here because everyone's worst fears about the belt becoming second-rate are quickly coming true. It shouldn't fill anybody with joy to report that.

Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles opened Night Of Champions; that's a good spot for any match, but it did feed into the "secondary" stuff AJ had been talking about pre-show. Then, WWE missed a trick by having both opponents team together in a seemingly-random tag match on the subsequent Raw.

Why? Wouldn't it have been better to see Rollins sell the full-timer aspect of that belt compared to Roman Reigns by firing out an open challenge? Unless this Judgment Day stuff leads to a proper feud, then it's placeholder bullsh*t for a title/champion that really needed to start off hot.

Hmm.
