10 Ups & 7 Downs For AEW In 2020 (So Far)

8. Gimmick Shows

Fyter Fest goes down this weekend and while not as outlandish a concept as those AEW dabbled with earlier in the year, recent form suggests two shows above Dynamite's usual quality level.

2020's first few months saw the promotion gamble with all kinds of wild supershows. Bash at the Beach was not only an aesthetic delight, but one of the best examples of weekly television the sport has producer all year, while the Jericho Cruise episode was as charming as it was unique, even forcing the wrestlers to alter their styles on account of the diminished space around ringside. Elsewhere, Dynamite's Jacksonville homecoming and anniversary shows weren't as lovely to look at, though similar notes were hit.

Four annual pay-per-views is a sparse schedule, though these gimmicked shows help assuage any concerns. they provide more landmark events on the television calendar, give AEW increased opportunities to blow feuds and storylines off, and are usually good for popping a number in the Wednesday Night Wars. Long may they continue.
