The return of the cruiserweight division has produced some nice, faster-paced matches – and a lot of purple. But one of the biggest concerns about the restarted division cropped up Monday night.

A tag match between Tony Nese and Drew Gulak versus Lince Dorado and Sin Cara (who apparently had to “join” the cruiserweight division, which was interesting) flew by in a matter of moments, literally jumping from spot to spot to spot. It was the kind of stuff you saw in WCW when they needed to fill three minutes, including entrances. There was nothing bad about the bout, but if this becomes the norm, fans will wonder why they’re watching smaller guys run around for 90 seconds instead of giving that time to the main eventers.

Another point worth making: If you’re going to have cruiserweights act like heels (Gulak tried to rip Dorado’s mask off, and Brian Kendrick has been acting slimy since returning), then do away with the pre-match handshake. It’s a nice idea in a tournament, but before a regular match? Come on…
