10 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (July 25)
2. Just Make Roman A Villain Already
WWE loves to play up how its fans have a voice and express themselves whenever John Cena receives the dueling boos and cheers. The company tried the same line with Roman Reigns when he reached the mountaintop, but really, that isn’t a fair comparison, because the cheers just aren’t there.
Reigns was roundly booed at Battleground Sunday night, and he was greeted with a chorus of boos Monday on Raw as well. This isn’t some 50/50 reaction – fans have a decidedly negative view of Roman right now, so any “redemption” storyline WWE might have been cooking up should be shelved for now.
That being said, why would WWE continue to push him as either a face or a tweener? The company is short on big, dominant villains, and fans are willing to boo the hell out of Roman. They let him have it when he attacked Sami Zayn early in the fatal four-way match, and they were solidly behind Finn Balor in the main event.
At least toy with it and let Reigns make some overtures to see how it goes. Whatever WWE is doing with him right now isn’t working, and it’s leaving a talented wrestler in some weird state of limbo.
