10 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2016

5. Just Can’t Care

Maybe someone who reviews or watches SmackDown regularly can set the record straight, but it was hard to get into or even care about the Intercontinental Championship match.

Apollo Crews won a triple threat to earn an IC title shot against the Miz at SummerSlam, and beyond that, the feud consisted of an altercation (that took place during a commercial break) over Miz calling him Apollo Creed. That was about it, right?

Miz and Maryse together are a great mid-card heel act, and he’s doing a good job making the Intercontinental Title feel like something desirable he’s carrying around. Crews is an athletic specimen, but there just seems to be such an anemic reaction for him compared to many of the other NXT call-ups of the past year. It’s just not clicking, and his matches aren’t anything memorable, other than one or two spots.

In the end, Crews smacked the ringpost on a corner splash attempt and ate the Skull-Crushing Finale for the loss. Maybe WWE will pump the brakes a little on Apollo and have him develop his personality a little more before trying to push him again.
