10 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2016

4. A Disappointing World Title Match

On the SmackDown before SummerSlam, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose put together a nice go-home segment for their WWE World Championship match, ending with Ziggler superkicking Ambrose’s head off his face (Dolph’s words).

But for whatever reason, their match Sunday did not really click with the crowd as many might have hoped. Maybe it was the match’s placement on the card, after the John Cena/AJ Styles classic and the tag title disaster. Or maybe fans just weren’t buying the ostensibly face-versus-face dynamic.

For whatever reason, the match was good (and Ambrose played an arrogantly dismissive champ well), but it wasn’t “World title match on the second-biggest PPV of the year” quality. Happy to hear from readers who agree or think otherwise in the comments on this one, because Ambrose and Ziggler are favorites, but yet this wasn’t doing it.
