10 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2016

2. Tag Team Dud

Before anyone gets bent out of shape and proclaims that Jon Stewart and Big E gave us a great SummerSlam moment during the Tag Team Championship match, let’s remind everyone that just 24 hours prior, the Revival and Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa tore down the house in a classic NXT tag title bout that had fans on their feet.

With that in mind, the WWE tag title match Sunday was nothing short of a disappointment. New Day, flanked by Stewart, took on “Dr.” Luke Gallows and “Dr.” Karl Anderson (another lame joke) in a match that was plodding along just fine, when the challengers hit the Magic Killer for the apparent win.

However, Stewart would enter the ring, and that’s when things broke down. Gallows and Anderson inexplicably spent a solid three minutes dealing with a former TV show host, deciding rather than winning the titles that they’d prefer to post Stewart. That’s when Big E returned to cause a DQ, ending the suddenly abysmal match.

Fans loved Big E’s return, but it’s hard to reconcile the difference between the two tag title matches on back-to-back nights.
