10 Ways Finn Balor’s Injury Affects WWE

9. Another Blow For The Championship

Universal Title 4 Way
WWE.com

The WWE Universal Championship hasn’t got off to the greatest starts in the WWE. Although that’s no fault of the title itself, given that it’s an inanimate object and all...

First of all, it was the name that proved to be an easy source of ridicule, not least of all from Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan. The rather forced reference to the WWE Universe just makes it sounds like some kind of weird game of astronomical one-upmanship and a bid to make the belt sound bigger (literally) than the blue brand's World Championship.

Then at SummerSlam, it was the design of the belt that came in for criticism. Here, just about the only thing universal was the unpopularity of the red leather strap, which really isn’t the most imaginative of concepts.

Long story short; the belt was in need of something to make it look good, and a lengthy reign for its maiden champion could have been the perfect means of achieving that.

Now though, this latest development just represents a situation turning from bad to worse. With opinions of the title already poor, it’s going to be an uphill struggle to build the prestige of the company’s newest championship.
