10 Ways Finn Balor’s Injury Affects WWE
7. Clash Of Champions PPV
In less than four weeks, Raw will be staging its first
brand-exclusive pay-per-view of the post-Draft era. Naturally they’ll be
wanting to put their best foot forward, but with this tournament to determine a
new Universal Champion eating up some valuable time, it’s going to be
increasingly more difficult to do that.
With this week’s batch of number one contender bouts, suddenly a four-week build shrinks to three. Then with next week’s final Fatal Four Way to accommodate, three weeks is whittled down to just two.
What had initially looked like a very healthy timeframe in which to book and properly promote a PPV, is rapidly becoming a bit of mad rush to not only crown a new champion, but to build a compelling story regarding who his first challenger will be.
It’s certainly possible, but again it may just be easier to throw to together a tried and tested formula as opposed to trying to carefully assemble a more original programme.
Either way, it’s more evidence that although there’s never a good time for your champion to be injured, coming at the start of a post-Draft era is perhaps the most inopportune moment of all.
