One of the worst elements of SmackDown is the lack of stakes surrounding each match. Too often it feels as though matches happen for the sake of happening. There are no stakes, nothing for the competitors to win or lose. Hell, by the time Monday's Raw rolls around, it is as if those matches never occurred at all. Adding high profile championship matches to the mix would solve that. Would it kill WWE Creative to book a heavyweight title match between Seth Rollins and someone like Dolph Ziggler? It is no secret that match has been done to death but adding the title to the mix would help add some prestige to the contest. And if there is hesitancy on WWE's part to book their top title in a SmackDown main event, at least deliver matches that further feuds rather than the same old tag bouts that serve no other purpose than to put Rollins, Kane, Ambrose and Reigns in the same proximity of each other. Even the occasional gimmick match would be appreciated. There are too many meaningless matches that occur on SmackDown. Too many retreads, as well. If the writing staff is that inclined to book Neville vs. Bo Dallas for the 1900th time, give it some sort of meaning or do not bother.
Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
