10 Ways To Refresh WWE's Stale Television Product

1. Stop Retreading Old Material

Repeating something over and over again to the point of triteness causes staleness with great efficiency, and given WWE’s propensity for recycling old material, it’s no surprise that their programming is in such a mess. Barely a show passes without the company trying to recreate something that worked in the past, and the impact lessens every single time.

Wrestler vs. authority figures are still the norm whenever Triple H is around. The company have tried to repeat Daniel Bryan’s success as an underdog babyface with Bayley and Sami Zayn, only to bury them further down the card. At Money In The Bank, Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton closed their match with a near carbon copy of the finish they used at Backlash just four weeks prior.

There are endless examples, and while some repetition is inevitable, WWE’s writers are either getting lazier as the years progress, or they’re creatively bankrupt. Regardless, it’s difficult to get invested in things you’ve already seen a thousand times before.

Wrestling thrives on excitement and unpredictability, but there’s very little of that in today’s television product, and until WWE force themselves to start thinking outside the box again, it’s hard to imagine the stagnation lifting.
