MJF Takes A CLEAR Shot At CM Punk... Then Deletes It (AEW News)
MJF trolls CM Punk with Hulk Hogan comparison.
Never one to pass on the chance to take a shot at CM Punk, that rascal MJF appeared to take a clear social media dig at the Second City Saint, only to quickly delete that dig.
Posting to Instagram Stories, the current AEW World Champion posted an image of Hulk Hogan holding the WWE Championship after defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania 9. That post has since been deleted, but a screenshot of it can be found on, amongst other places, Reddit.
For those maybe not too familiar with that image, it comes from the final moments of WrestleMania 9; a WrestleMania where Hulk Hogan teamed with Brutus Beefcake to take on Money Inc. in the middle of the card, with Bret Hart defending the WWE Championship against Mr. Fuji's Yokozuna in the main event.
By the time all was said and done with WrestleMania 9, Hulk Hogan was infamously left standing tall as the WWE Champion in a decision that baffled many at the time and even more people in the decades since. This was only the second time that the Hulkster wasn't in the WrestleMania main event - although the one other time, Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase at 'Mania 4, still had plenty of involvement from Hulk - as WWE looked to move away from the 'Hogan Must Pose' days, as highlighted by a fresh main event picture pitting Bret Hart against the monstrous Yokozuna, and Hogan taking a spot lower down the card.
While Mr. Fuji and some well-thrown salt would bring an end to Bret Hart's first run as WWE Champion on that night, we now had a new all-conquering heel at the top of the mountain in the gigantic Yokozuna. Only, yeah, Hulk Hogan would appear and goad that all-conquering heel into an impromptu match, where he'd beat Yoko in just 22 seconds. A case of political plays and baffling Vince McMahon logic, this made Mr. Fuji and Yokozuna look stupid for accepting that match, it was a first pinfall loss for Yokozuna and took away some of his steam, it made Bret Hart look like an idiot for cheering Hogan on to face Yoko, and it was a slap in the face for those who thought WrestleMania 9 was a changing of the guard that was moving away from saying prayers, training hard, and taking vitamins.
So, the wider point being, a fresh main event scene, brought crashing down by an old-timer clinging onto the spotlight and pulling strings backstage to get themselves the WWE Championship.
How does this tie in with CM Punk, then? Well, SmackDown certainly felt like it had a fresh main event scene after Sami Zayn won the WWE Championship at Night of Champions last month. And while Zayn was set to defend that title against Cody Rhodes, on a show that CM Punk wasn't even advertised for, not to mention he hadn't been seen for three months, it was somehow Punker walking out of Raw this week as the WWE Champion.
Of course, the reality here is that this CM Punk title win had reportedly been planned for over a month, and it was part of a wider plan to get to the big-money match of Punk vs. Rhodes at SummerSlam. Plus, there have been no rumblings of any political power plays by the Straight-Edge Superstar as he desperately looks to take the legs out from under any other talents.
Still, never change, Max. S**thousery at its absolute finest.
