5. Letting Individuals Shine

One of the biggest problems with how WWE currently book their roster is the lack of individual focus. Instead of building sharp, one-on-one storylines that allow both performers to show their personalities, the company are insistent on cramming as many wrestlers into a single feud as possible, hindering the participants’ ability to stand-out from the crowd, and therefore get over.

SmackDown’s women’s division has felt the worst of it, but the issue isn’t alien to the red brand either, with Raw’s main eventers forced into a five-man contendership feud prior to Extreme Rules. This technique just reeks of a lack of ideas and creativity, and until it is done away with, it’s hard to imagine either show feeling interesting again.

There’s only so much airtime available each week, and WWE have an obligation to utilise as many wrestlers as possible. Still, giving Wrestler X five-minutes of guaranteed screen-time every week might keep the performer happy, but if it comes at the cost of well-defined storytelling, it isn’t worth it. This practice has rendered the likes of Becky Lynch and Charlotte directionless, and until WWE dispel the crowded mess, their storylines will continue to feel inconsequential.
