While WWE was still running with what Bill Watts perfectly described as a "macabre cartoon", WCW created a very grounded and realistic atmosphere for storytelling. Although you knew in the back of your mind that the NWO invasion wasn't necessarily real, it was done with so much credibility that it didn't even matter. It didn't matter that you were watching a wrestling show, because it was organic and it all felt incredibly real. Scott Hall's spectacular debut was just one of the many things that made WCW different, as it was done in such a unique and realistic way, that you could almost buy that he just showed up. WCW's way of using narrative could still work today, including the infamous moment at the Disney-MGM studios where Kevin Nash launched Rey Mysterio into a trailer like a dart that still hurts. It was a harrowing moment, and that's something WWE could absolutely use more of these days.
