It sometimes seems as though the world of wrestling just ain't big enough for Cody Rhodes, and there is nobody else on the planet like him. He is a Rhodes after all.

Leading up to Cody's meteoric contribution to AEW, the Rhodes legacy was intertwined in more than one promotion, but ultimately rested under the banner of WWE in more recent years. Post-NXT, Cody did some sterling work under Vince's brand, putting on some stellar performances and carrying some great gimmicks.

Things grew a little less savoury however, when young Rhodes took on the role of Stardust, a counterpart to his older brother Goldust/Dustin. It's not to say that he didn't go a good job under this guise, but seeing as Cody wanted to be the number one guy in the company, this was simply not the direction he wanted his career moving toward... Understandable when you look back at the attire.

He asked out, and they granted his request. Simple as that. The Rhodes family had always been larger than life, so one can assume that WWE thought it best for all concerned to honour Cody's request and let him loose on the world.
