10 Ways WWE Can Break Out Of Their Summer Slump

5. Combine Tag Divisions

Tag team wrestling isn’t in great shape at the moment. Raw and SmackDown are blighted by a lack of depth, forcing them to book the same two or three duos against one another ad nauseam, and while the company’s biggest teams are among their most popular acts, they rarely feel like anything more than a midcard sideshow act.

The Hardy Boyz, Sheamus & Cesaro, and The Revival are great on Raw, as are The Usos, New Day, and Breezango on SmackDown. Throw these six teams together and WWE would have the basis of a fantastic tag division, with groups like American Alpha and The Colons providing depth at a lower level. Unfortunately, the brand split prevents most of these tandems from wrestling each other, and they’re stuck in holding patterns on their respective brands.

The split has benefited WWE in a number of ways, but it has left this shorthanded group woefully thin on both sides of the divide. Combining them on one brand is the sensible thing to do. It’s a radical change, but one that would ensure the tag division never runs out of fresh feuds and match-ups, thus preventing staleness, and giving viewers another incentive to tune in.
