10 Ways WWE Can Guarantee A WrestleMania 34 Sell-Out

3. Have John Cena Chase The Record

Love him or hate him, John Cena is still WWE’s biggest star. He’s one of only a few roster members capable of improving ticket sales and viewership numbers on his own, and booking Cena practically guarantees a spike in interest levels. He might be taking more time off than ever before these days, but excluding him from the biggest card of the year would be criminal, particularly as WWE have a ready-made story to build his match around.

Cena equalled Ric Flair’s record of 16 World Titles when he defeated AJ Styles earlier this year. There was nothing memorable about the reign itself, but it put John on equal footing with the 'Nature Boy', and given that Cena is still one of the best “big match” performers on the WWE roster, breaking the record feels like an inevitability.

Such an accomplishment demands a huge stage, and there are none bigger than WrestleMania. New Orleans is the perfect place to cement Cena’s status as one of the all-time greats, and while crowning him wouldn’t be a universally popular move, it’d make for a great story on the night.
