10 Ways WWE Can Turn Around Its Ratings Woes

8. Bring Back An Authority Figure (Really)

When they're done right, authority figures in WWE do work. Seeing Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon bring the heels in line on SmackDown Live was always good fun, while seeing Vince get his comeuppance always helped make these shows a must-see. Don't forget, it was his rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin that helped WWE overcome WCW all those years ago because it was something viewers could relate to.

Currently, wrestlers seemingly book themselves in matches and there are never really any serious consequences for anyone's actions. Bringing in a fresh authority figure of some sort could shake things up in a big way and involving them in key storylines and taking a slow build approach to their eventual downfall is definitely a way to get fans hooked again.

Admittedly, this is a concept WWE pretty much killed by putting Baron Corbin and Shane McMahon in charge as heels (the former can arguably be blamed for RAW's shocking decline in viewership). However, with the right talent and stories, viewers would have the opportunity to watch their favourite wrestlers overcome new challenges, see the bad guys get what they deserve, and know that there's a reason for what happens each week.
