10 Ways WWE Can Turn Around Its Ratings Woes
4. Money In The Bank Needs To Matter
The importance of Money in the Bank has declined in recent years and Superstars failing to cash in (thereby wasting their opportunity) or cashing in the same night they win the briefcase is a well the company has now visited too many times. Making the gimmick matter again would be massively beneficial to WWE over the summer, particularly as it's a period where ratings tend to fall after the excitement of WrestleMania.
WWE took this to extremes last year by having Brock Lesnar constantly promise to cash in and while it benefited ratings in the short term, being lied to on a weekly basis also massively pissed fans off and likely drove off a lot of already exasperated viewers.
Using the Money in the Bank briefcase effectively can keep people tuning in for an entire year and if it's built up with a strong storyline behind it, the moment that cash in happens then becomes a moment fans talk about for years to come. It can also be used to freshen up the main event scene when things start to grow stagnant and introducing a tag team version - which was rumoured to be the plan last year - could also be a smart move.
