10 Ways WWE Have Shot Themselves In The Foot At WrestleMania 31

1. Institutional Racism

Last year, fans were shocked to hear of the sudden release of Alberto Del Rio due to €œunprofessional conduct€ and even more shocked to hear the reason for that release. Reportedly, a social media manager at WWE made a joke that some dirty dishes should be cleaned by Del Rio because he€™s Mexican, and Del Rio retaliated by slapping the racist employee across the face. WWE sided with the racist over Del Rio for fears of being sued, but Del Rio seemed happy to leave a company that from multiple accounts is a hotbed for racism. In interviews following his release, he talked about how the racism starts with the higher-ups (implying Triple H as one of these racists) and because of that, the lower level employees think that it€™s okay as well. Del Rio isn€™t the only person to claim this atmosphere exists as well, with his former ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez claiming that Triple H would often refer to him as €œBumblebee Man€, a reference to The Simpsons character known for being both chubby and clumsy. Even this week, Dave Meltzer has reported that WWE€™s institutional racism is one of the reasons Rey Mysterio, their biggest Latino star, was so desperate to leave as soon as possible. Only a few years ago, WWE had three huge Mexican stars in Mysterio, Del Rio and the original Sin Cara and it€™s baffling to see pictures of the three of them from this week, stood side-by-side in Mexico€™s Triple AAA promotion. Racism has absolutely no place in the work place, or anywhere for that matter, and the fact that WWE let it drive away main event level stars is deplorable.
