10 Ways WWE Have Shot Themselves In The Foot At WrestleMania 31

2. Failure To Capitalise On A Diverse Audience

When WWE announced their partnership with the E!, in the form of reality series Total Divas, many hardcore fans baulked at the idea of a wrestling themed reality show. However, the show was a hit, and now towards the end of its third season, with the addition of Paige and Alicia Fox, has actually been steadily climbing in ratings. This has had the wonderful effect of diversifying WWE€™s audience and introducing to a new, predominantly female demographic to professional wrestling. While this should be excellent news, instead these new fans who watch Raw after watching Total Divas are left confused about the way women wrestlers are presented in the context of a full wrestling show. If you watch Total Divas, the women seem like warriors who give everything in the ring, fighting through injury and personal trauma to entertain the world. Watching Raw on the other hand, the Divas are given five minutes at best to get in, hit a few moves and then win with a roll-up, so to say there€™s a disconnect is an understatement. WWE have created a massive market for great women€™s wrestling almost by accident and now are doing nothing to serve that audience. The Divas are more popular than they€™ve ever been among the mainstream consciousness, and now it€™s time for WWE to take that popularity and turn into some money-making match-ups.
