10 Ways WWE Should Book King Of The Ring 2021
7. Winner Receives A World Title Shot
Another rather straightforward booking addition WWE could make to a revamped King Of The Ring tournament, is announcing in advance that the winner of the event would receive a future world title shot.
Whilst this might sound unoriginal, surprisingly only once before in KOTR has there been a championship match reward for the victor, that coming in 2002’s tournament won by Brock Lesnar.
Adding a future world title shot stipulation to the King Of The Ring gimmick immediately raises the stakes of the tournament and would draw more attention to results. Perhaps this could even be used internally to draw buzz for the event, with potential participation from an NXT guy such as Karrion Kross to enter the tournament and take over the main roster.
With a shot at either the WWE or Universal Championship on the line, KOTR could be sold as a real chance of a lifetime, a rags to riches opportunity for someone often left out in the cold. Superstars low on the totem pole could enter, and their journey through the ranks would become a key element of the tournament’s narrative, heightening the emotion and drama attached to it. This also would allow WWE even more chance to freshen up world title pictures, which could benefit from some new faces.
