10 Ways WWE Should Book King Of The Ring 2021
6. Raw Roulette Edition
WWE has two options when it comes to how they should book a 2021 King Of The Ring tournament. Option one would be to stick to what works and run a traditional single-elimination tournament. On the other hand, they could think outside the box and aim to put a different spin on a beloved famous gimmick.
It has been reported that WWE is considering a return of different themed shows, with the Raw Roulette concept being sounded out as an idea currently on the table. Raw Roulette has been held twice on the Monday night show, once in 2002 and 2008, with the premise being match stipulations are decided by a roulette wheel. Unfortunately, due to WWE’s incessant obsession with cheesy comedy these shows are not fondly remembered. Awful stipulations such as a blindfold, Las Vegas showgirl and pillow fight matches were damagingly overused on these shows, making for very tedious editions of Raw. Needless to say, WWE did not take full advantage of the Roulette concept.
The silver lining is that 2002’s show was main-evented by TLC 4 for the World Tag Team Championships, a barnstorming car-crash which was an absolute spectacle, proving the themes potential. If used properly, running tournament contests with exciting stipulations like Ambulance or Stretcher matches, a Raw Roulette theme could create a frantic aura of anticipation for a KOTR tournament. It would epitomise the anything could happen narrative that WWE prides itself on.
