The Divas Revolution hasn’t brought about the change that many people had initially expected. Instead of it being all about changing how women are presented in WWE, it has become about backstage egos. WWE’s seemingly unstoppable commitment to have Nikki Bella surpass AJ Lee’s record 295-day reign has led to some frustrating booking decisions.

While it’s somewhat understandable for WWE to want to have the division be represented by someone more loyal to the company, the least Nikki could do is, you know, actually defend the title on a regular basis. She hasn’t defended it in roughly 60 days, twice the (supposed) limit for other belts.

For Nikki to keep blathering on about how she’s going to surpass AJ’s reign without even defending it speaks volumes of an irritating trend of WWE ignoring the rules that are supposed to govern their universe. It would’ve been a much more interesting match if Nikki defended her belt against one or more challengers, instead of taking part in a tag team match that’s likely to be forgotten in a few weeks anyway.

Had Nikki defended her belt, it would’ve opened the door to a plethora of match combinations and potential storylines, and if she were booked to retain the belt, it would’ve done so much more to make her look like a fighting and deserving champion.
