The WCW roster continued to get stronger and stronger as 1996 turned into 1997. The midcard talent at WCW's disposal in '97 was incredible, a veritable list of some of the '90s best performers - Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon, Steven Regal, Eddy Guerrero and a whole lot more.

Midcard stars would have made the 1997 match one to remember. Benoit, Eddy, Regal and Jeff Jarrett would have competed in the match on the WCW side of things. The nWo only got stronger through 1997 (in terms of size, at least), and representing the Black and White would have been Syxx, Buff Bagwell and Konnan.

WCW would have experienced a brief moment of joy here though, as Eddy Guerrero would have defied the odds to climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase. Those hoping for an Eddy championship win would have been disappointed however - with the nWo around, feel-good stories were kept to a minimum.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
