4. DDP's Benefactor

In 1996, Diamond Dallas Page was in a bad way. In fact, he was at rock bottom, after losing a Loser Leaves Town match to Johnny B. Badd and being banished from World Championship Wrestling altogether. Vignettes were shown of DDP and his sadness, with him hustling (no, not that kind of hustling) on the streets just to survive.

The vignettes may have been going somewhere, but out of nowhere DDP returned to the ring and seemed to have left his financial woes behind him. The slow-burn to redemption was gone, replaced by sparkly jackets and a bit of swagger. Diamond Dallas Page had returned thanks to an unknown benefactor, and a damn rich one at that.

Well, it was never revealed who the benefactor was. Supposedly it was Kimberley, but it was never truly resolved. Maybe DDP yoga saved him, I don’t know.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
